Warm Christmas Wishes!!

1st:  Alexis Bailly Vineyard - http://abvwines.com/
     "Isis" - 2011
It's ice wine, what more do I need to say?  ABV does an outstanding job with this one.  Notes of apricot, peaches, and honey run across your pallet.  A sweet desert wine you don't want to miss.

2nd:  Alexis Bailly Vineyard - http://abvwines.com/
    "Solaris" - 2011
This wine is new for ABV, and they hit the mark right on!!!  This is a brandy-infused WHITE wine.  Yes, I said, WHITE wine.  It will warm the cockles of your heart as flavors of peaches, figs, and honey dance across your tongue.  It's winter in Minnesota, and even though it's a brown Christmas it's nice to warm up with this awesome wine on a cold winter night!!

The Holiday Season

1st:  Lioco - http://www.liocowine.com/
     "Chardonnay" - 2010
This is a great wine paired with chicken and I'm going to give you the description off the bottle because it's right on.
Nose of fresh meyer lemon, lime leaf and river stones.  Flavor of lemon drop candies, green pair, and mineral.  Food pairings with green curry chicken, dungeoness crab, fish chowder.

2nd:  Alexis Bailly Vineyard - http://www.abvwines.com/
     "Ratafia" - 2009
If you don't have one of these  in your rack for this time of year you are missing out!  This wine is a mixture of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year all packed into triangular blue bottle.  I suggest it for sippping with a loved one, or small group of close friends.
This is a red fortified sweet dessert wine infused with orange.  It is toasty, spicy, nutty, and brings out everything that reminds me of Christmas.

Wine From Way Down South

1st:  Victor Hugo Winery - http://www.victorhugowinery.com/
     "Morio Muscat" - 2006
Pulled out this wine to sip for a relaxing winter night and it was awesome!  That's why it was in the wine rack.  This winery produces great wines and this was one of them.  When I say down south I mean -South Africa.  This is a straw colored sweet wine with notes of honeysuckle and jasmine.  Deep grape notes and honey with a hint of fig roll across the palate.  This is one to hunt for.  I suggest starting with Eric at the Liquor Barrell in Mahtomedi - http://www.mahtomediliquorbarrel.com/.  Tell him "The Winers Crier" sent you :)

I'm Back :)

Sorry for having been gone so long.  Life happens.

I have a lot of great stuff to tell you about.  I've been on the road and river and have found some great wines you'll want to know about. You won't get them all in this one post as I am catching up, but I will get all the info to you.

I will also be working on making this a better blog with links, etc to make it more useful to you.  That said, here is one to get us going.

1st:  Fieldstone Vineyards - http://www.fieldstonevineyards.com/
     Maretell Frontenac - Year Unknown
This is a very nice dry red table wine - it will be hard to come by because of it's limited production,
so if you see one grab it.
Watch for my next update - next Sunday morning when I start to unload some of the great wines I've tasted over the last months.

Life is a highway, take a drive.

March Thoughts

1st:  Saint Croix Vineyards - http://www.scvwines.com/
     "Vignoles" - 2007
Vignoles is a wonderful wine with a nose of peach and grapefruit.  It is a semi-dry wine that has a flavor that delicately bounces off the tongue.
Vignoles and I have had a hate/love relationship since day one.  My wife really likes this one.  The first time I tried it I didn't like it,  then with each sip it started to grow on me.  It remains the same for me today.  I really enjoy it, then I'm not sure, then I'm really enjoying it again.  Oh yeah, and all in the same glass of wine.  Try this one for yourself.  I believe you will like it, and coming from Saint Croix Vineyards you can't go wrong.
Notes:  Many wineries open thier tasting rooms again in the spring.  I will be putting up a links post soon so you don't miss out.

Frozen February Favorites

1st:  Saint Croix Vineyards - www.scvwines.com
     "La Crescent" - 2009
Is it any wonder we like this wine?  It won the "Minnesota Governor's Cup" trophy at the 2010 International Cold Climate Wine Competition.  That being said, this white desert wine is delightful, with floral notes and hints of apricot and tangerine to the taste buds.

2nd:  Cannon River Winery - www.cannonriverwinery.com
     "Sogn Blanc" - 2008
Check out these credentials:  2006 Tasters Guild International Award, 2009 International Cold Climate Wine Competition, among many others you'll find on their site.  Sogn Blanc is a beautiful blush wine with a delicate sweetness made from Edelweiss grapes.  You will find the peach, white grape, pineapple and mango aromas highly pleasing.  We paired with Jambalaya and found a hint of cotton candy with a wonderful fresh grape nose.
